COMMON QUESTIONS

Do I stay with my child during class?

It is not necessary.  You are welcome to come in and stay but most parents just drop off their children and then come back when class is over and wait outside the house to pick up.

How does my child get to the studio?

We usually have our business sign hanging on the front door.  This is an indication that I am waiting for your child and class is that day/time.   Your child need not knock, when the sign is on the door they just come inside and go down stairs to the back of the basement where the studio is located.  I am usually down there waiting adn don't always hear the doorbell.

Can my 5 year old take classes?

This question is asked the most. Debbie's Art Acadmy weekly classes are for ages 6 and up.  In the past I haven't had a lot of success with making my classes work with 5 year olds.  Some of the reasons I don't take 5 year olds is that sometimes I use equipment such as hot glue guns and I wouldn't want them to get hurt, there are times when I use paper mache and they have a hard time completing the project.  They almost always go fast and don't pay a lot of attnetion to the instructions.  I want them to learn some art skills, and a lot of times with the younger ones, they are just trying to hurry and get it done and want to know what's next.  There's just something about 6 years olds that make them do better, maybe it's that they have been trhoughr kindergarten and have learned some skills that help them in being patient.

I also have a full class of 12 students, all needing my assistance at times and the 5 year olds need more of my time and that takes away from the other students.  I am okay at taking 5 year olds as long as an adult is with them to assist them.

I do have some events that 5 year olds may attend.  We have a Parent & Child painting classes and occasionally there is an art event night, which usually lasts 2 1/2 hrs.
